Traveling with Mobility Devices

Travel opens up a world of possibilities, and having a mobility device shouldn’t stop you from exploring. With a bit of planning and a positive mindset, you can journey anywhere smoothly and enjoyably. Here are a few tips to keep you rolling wherever you go:

• Visiting Family: Let your loved ones know about any special accommodations you might need (such as a ramp or shower chair) before you arrive. A little preparation ensures you can focus on enjoying time together, and your family will be happy to help make their home welcoming and comfortable for you.

• Flying: Did you know airlines will transport wheelchairs and mobility scooters at no extra cost? Make sure to call the airline ahead of time to arrange assistance and discuss your needs. Arrive early to the airport to allow time for check-in and security with your equipment, and don’t hesitate to remind staff about handling your device with care. You have rights as a traveler, so speak up and fly with confidence!

• Cruising: Cruise ships are very mobility-friendly these days. In fact, using mobility scooters has become the norm on cruises and is easier than you might think​. You can access virtually the entire ship with your wheelchair or scooter, so book an accessible cabin and enjoy everything on board from dining to entertainment.
